How the box ladder works

The league is divided into boxes of 5–6 players, grouped by skill. Box 1 is the top group. Each round runs for two weeks. During a round you challenge any other player in your box, play your match, then record the score on this site.

At the end of the round, the top finisher in each box is promoted to the box above, and the bottom finisher is relegated to the box below. The top player overall wins the round prize.

Prize eligibility — play at least 60% of your matches

To be eligible for any prize, you must play at least 60% of the matches available to you in your box. For a 6-player box that means at least 3 of your 5 possible matches; for a 5-player box, at least 3 of 4.

This keeps the ladder fair — wins from players who only showed up once or twice can't outweigh the people who put in the time. Plan ahead and use the two weeks to get your matches in.

Match formats

Players agree on a format before the match starts. Any of these counts as a complete match:

  • First to 6 games — single pro-set, win by two, tiebreak at 6–6.
  • Superset to 8 — first to 8 games, win by two, tiebreak at 8–8.
  • Superset to 10 — first to 10 games, win by two, tiebreak at 10–10.
  • Best of 2 full sets — standard 6-game sets, plus a 10-point match tiebreak if split 1–1.

Pick whatever fits your schedule and energy on the day — what matters is that both players agree on the format before play begins.

Recording a match

  1. Either player can enter the score — we run on the honour system.
  2. Open the Ladder, click your row to expand your matchups, and enter the result inline. You can also use Record match in the top nav.
  3. Write the score in the format you played — e.g. 6-4, 6-2 for two sets, 10-7 for a superset to 10.

Signing up

Sign up with your name, phone, email, and self-rate on the NTRP scale from 2.5 to 5.0. An organizer will approve you and place you in a box for the next round.

The entry fee is paid by Interac e-Transfer to treasurer@quintetennis.org. Please include your full name in the message so we can match the payment to your account.
